Our skin changes throughout our lives. The skin is consists of three layers, the outer layer - epidermis, intermediate - dermis and deepest layer - subcutaneous fat layer. When you are a baby, your skin is perfect. It is soft, firm and glows with health. As a baby, the skin has a much thicker fat layer (subcutaneous) and a much thinner layer of protective keratin. But as you mature, your skin begins to lose its ability to stay healthy, usually sometime in your 30s. The skin loses much of the underlying fat filling, Collagen breaks down, the dermis and epidermis become thinner, blood vessels begin to break, the skin loses its elasticity, cell turnover and the flow of moisture from deep within begins to slow. The flow of blood in the skin also decreases with age. Older skin also makes less protective oil, so the skin dries out more easily and cracks
readily.
